Any questions?

  • What kind of training methods do you use?

We practise positive reinforcement, or reward-based training. In class, the rewards we use are usually food, for reasons we'll explain.

  • We do not use any training method that includes force or physical punishment, nor will we tolerate any adversive behaviour, including physical force or shouting. Please see our Code of Practice and Health & Safety policies.

  • Where are classes held?

Our classes are held in an indoor riding school in Great Kingshill. This means we are under cover and have LOTS of space. Meeting other puppies and dogs is part of the fun but not all dogs feel comfortable with other dogs, particularly when they first arrive. This is why we limit class numbers, to give all dogs PLENTY of space.
  • The venue has a sand surface. Although there is level entry to the venue, the surface may not be suitable for all wheelchairs. Please call to discuss if you have mobility concerns.
  • Can I bring my partner/children?

We warmly welcome families to all classes. Adults are wholly responsible for the supervision and control of any accompanying children.
  • What vaccinations does my dog need

As this is a group class, it is advisable, although not obligatory, that your dog has a kennel cough vaccination more than 10 days before the start of the course. Kennel cough vaccinations are available from your vet and inexpensively at some pet stores including Jollyes in HIgh Wycombe. Puppies must have completed their initial vaccination course.

PUPPY CLASSES

  • How old does my puppy need to be to come to the class?
We recommend you join as soon as your puppy is fully vaccinated.
  • Can young dogs join too?
Yes, we also accept young dogs who have missed out on basic training onto our puppy course. Gaining confidence with dogs of different sizes and ages can be a positive experience. As we have plenty of space, small class numbers and two professional instructors per class, we are able to manage all puppy/dog interactions carefully.

SHAPE 'EM UP BOOSTER TRAINING

Is my dog suitable for this course?

  • If your dog knows the basics, even if these are not reliable, this course is suitable.
  • The course is designed to be the next stage after puppy foundation training, or booster training for older dogs.
  • Activities can be adapted to different needs/sizes/ages of dogs.
  • Dogs taking part must be able to relax in the company of other dogs.

CHALLENGE DOG TRAINING CLASS

Is my dog suitable for this class?

  • Dogs should be over six months old and there is no upper age limit
  • Dogs with compromised mobility (eg, arthritis) may not be able to take part in all activities although we adapt exercises to different needs/sizes/ages of dogs.
  • Dogs taking part must be able to relax in the company of other dogs.
  • Dogs do not require a high level of training to participate but should be able to sit on cue. Most activities take place on lead or long line. A ‘wait/stay’, and a ‘down’ will be useful.
  • Please ask about 1-2-1 'brush up' sessions, or consider the Shape 'Em Up booster Course, if you feel your dog would benefit from a extra input before starting.
  • TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • The welfare of participating children, adults and dogs is paramount. Therefore any dog, person or child behaving in a way that the organisers deem poses a risk to their own safety and/or welfare, or that of other participants, may be asked to leave that activity.
  • Any dog, child or person that persists in behaving in a way that the organisers deem poses a risk to their own safety and/or welfare, or that of other participants, or that of their dog or another participant's dog, will be asked to leave the course.
  • Unneutered female dogs that come into oestrus (season) during the course must leave the course immediately. We will rebook your bitch onto the next available course following her season.
  • We reserve the right to ask any dog, person or child to leave the course if we feel the activities compromise the welfare of that dog, person or child in any way.
  • We are unable to offer refunds once the course has started.
  • We reserve the right to edit or amend the published schedule of events or course content to ensure the best experience for all participants.
