Any questions?

  • What training methods do you use?

Positive reinforcement, also called reward-based training. In class, the rewards are usually food, for reasons we'll explain.

  • We do not use any training method that includes force or physical punishment, nor will we tolerate any aversive behaviour, including physical force or shouting. Please see our Code of Practice and Health & Safety policies.

  • Where are the classes held?

Our classes are held in an indoor riding school in Great Kingshill. This means we are under cover and have LOTS of space.

  • The venue has a sand surface with level entry; however the approach and surface may not be suitable for all wheelchairs. Please call to discuss if you have mobility concerns

  • How many in a class?

We limit numbers to 5-8 in a class to give all dogs plenty of space and allow us to offer everyone personal attention.
  • Can I bring my partner/children?

We warmly welcome families to all classes. Adults are responsible for the supervision and control of any accompanying children.
  • What vaccinations does my dog need?

Puppies should have completed their initial vaccination course, but please do discuss with your vet.

  • For older dogs it's advisable in any group activity to have the kennel cough vaccine. Kennel cough vaccinations are available from your vet and inexpensively at some pet stores including Jollyes in HIgh Wycombe.

ABOUT PUPPY CLASSES

  • How old does my puppy need to be to come to the class?
We recommend you join as soon as your puppy is fully vaccinated.
  • Can young dogs join too?
Yes, we also accept young dogs who have missed out on basic training onto our puppy course. Gaining confidence with dogs of different sizes and ages can be a positive experience. As we have plenty of space, small class numbers and two professional instructors per class, we are able to manage all puppy/dog interactions carefully.

SHAPE 'EM UP BOOSTER TRAINING

Is this the right class for my dog?

  • If your dog knows the basics, even if these are not reliable, this course is suitable.
  • The course is designed to be the next stage after puppy foundation training, or booster training for older dogs.
  • Activities can be adapted to different needs/sizes/ages of dogs.
  • Dogs taking part must be able to relax in the company of other dogs. If your dog is not happy around other dogs, please speak to us as there are 1-2-1 and specific class options for dogs who lack confidence around other dogs.

CHALLENGE DOG TRAINING CLASS

Is my dog suitable for this class?

  • Dogs should be over six months old and there is no upper age limit
  • Dogs with compromised mobility (eg, arthritis) may not be able to take part in all activities but we adapt exercises to different needs/sizes/ages of dogs and owners
  • Dogs do not require a high level of training to participate but should be able to sit on cue. Most activities take place on lead or long line. A ‘wait/stay’, and a ‘down’ will be useful.
  • Please ask about 1-2-1 'brush up' sessions, or consider the Shape 'Em Up booster Course, if you feel your dog would benefit from a extra input before starting.
  • Dogs taking part must be able to relax in the company of other dogs. If your dog is not happy around other dogs, please speak to us as there are 1-2-1 and specific class options for dogs who lack confidence around other dogs.
What if my dog isn't relaxed around other dogs?
Some dogs gain confidence from a gentle introduction to a class setting, for others it can be quite stressful. HotDog Training offers specific training for dogs who are unsure around other dogs so please talk to us
